About

Photographer: Oscar Vinck

Meng-Chan Yu is an artist and designer. Her work is based on the belief that art and design help us extend the ability to imagine and think in different perspectives. This leads to better life. The relationship between artistic merit, the potential of materials, and function is key. For instance, the project “Falling-Down Collection” takes advantage of porcelain paste (liquid) to create an animation-like installation while the cups are designed to be functional and safe for food.

Yu turns her passion for sharing knowledge into educational programs. Based on the different target groups she translates the creating process into an accessible version. For instance, the project “Creative thinking workshop” aims to support people with mental disability to develop and strengthen their potential of imagination and realization.

Yu comes from Taiwan. After graduating from the Muthesius Academy in Kiel with an M.A. in Fine Arts she established her own studio in Kiel, Germany in 2015.
