Hydromedia: Seeing with Water invites 12 artists to create visualization methods and protocols that promote citizen engagement for new strategies in ecological water management. These artists will work on sites specified by the three art institutions Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (DE), Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (NL) and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (BE). The project will run from January 2023 through December 2024. Each institute will host four artists for a one-month residency in which they will be invited to develop their experimental procedures toward a wider public understanding of ecocentric visions, with a focus on water.
The first residency will take place in Antwerp, Belgium in April 2023, the second one in Utrecht, the Netherlands in October 2023, and the third and final one in April 2024 in Karlsruhe, Germany.
In May 2018, Atelier Josepha celebrated its opening as a flexible showroom and workspace in Ahrenshoop. The studio offers artists a quiet place for inspiration between the Bodden and the Baltic Sea. Every year, the studio offers two artist residencies of respectively three weeks. A team of curators selects German and international artists who will be invited to work in the studio and stay at the neighboring Haus Josepha.

Which natural elements are essential for human survival? I connect soil to market vendors, fruit trees, forests, soil microorganisms, and the universe. The diverse combinations of soil and climate in different regions produce various agricultural products and ecosystems, inspiring the development of human cultures. Tracing back from the rich humanities appearance to the soil, I use soil-made images to reflect the local environment and simultaneously aim to communicate with people across regions.
